As lawyers, all information you provide us (whether or not Personal Information) is also kept in strict confidence in accordance with our legal obligations under the Legal Profession Uniform Law and the Australian Solicitors’ Conduct Rules 2015 and related legislation, rules and principles of law which govern the conduct of Australian Legal Practitioners (Conduct Rules). However, just to be clear – giving us consent to disclose your Personal Information under this policy does not entitle us to disclose any of your non-personal confidential information (such as confidential information relating to your business) – we can only use and disclose that information in accordance with the Conduct Rules, or if you otherwise consent.
If you are an Adventum Legal client, the ways we may need to use and disclose your non-personal confidential information will either be set out in our engagement letter, or otherwise separately agreed between us. Feel free to contact us using the details below if you have any questions.
What Personal Information do we collect?
The relationship that you have with Adventum Legal, as a client, potential client, job applicant, or supplier (for example) will change what Personal Information we collect and hold.
The information that we require from you may include your name, your contact details, your business’ contact details, your date of birth, job title, employment history, qualifications, tax file number (for new employees only), your business’ ACN and ABN, your credit or financial details, preferences and interests, your instructions for legal matters we assist you on, and other information relevant to the supply of our products and services collected by us or that you choose to provide to us. If you purchase products or services from us, we may also collect your bank or credit card details for payment.
We will only collect or disclose Sensitive Information about you if it is reasonably required to fulfil our functions, when we have your consent, or if required by law. Sensitive Information about you may include information about attributes such as mental health, disability, sexuality, race or ethnic origin, criminal convictions, religious affiliations and political affiliations.
How we collect your Personal Information
We collect Personal Information during the course of us providing and offering our services and products, or when you first engage with us to enquire about our services and products. This includes when you provide Personal Information to us in person, via our website, by completing and signing an engagement letter and becoming a client, during phone and video conference calls, by email, by social media or otherwise via customer enquiries or communications.
Generally, we collect Personal Information directly from you. However, we may also collect Personal Information from other people or organisations, including from other legal professionals and/or their clients, our service providers and suppliers, credit reporting bodies, government agencies, organisations that you have worked for and referrals who may have introduced you to us. We may also collect information about you from third party search providers or third party sources (such as publicly available information on the internet).
Why do we need your Personal Information?
We only collect or hold Personal Information where it is reasonably necessary for our business functions or activities.
We need Personal Information to provide you with our products and/or services, which includes:
(each a Main Purpose, and jointly Main Purposes).
If you do not provide us with Personal Information then we may not be able to carry out some or all of the Main Purposes.
How do we use or disclose your Personal Information?
Generally speaking, we will disclose Personal Information for the Main Purposes. In order for us to provide you with our products and services, we may need to disclose your Personal Information to third parties. The type of third party we may make a disclosure to, will vary depending on our relationship with you, and the reason for disclosure, but it may include:
We may disclose Personal Information to our partners and suppliers in order to assist us in providing our products or services to you. Some of our service providers or the services they provide (including the provision of cloud software), may be based outside Australia, including in the United States of America and New Zealand.
We may also disclose Personal Information in other ways with your consent or to a third party where we are authorised or required to do so by law (including under the Australian Privacy Laws or the Conduct Rules). We may also be compelled from time to time by court order to make a disclosure in circumstances where legal professional privilege does not apply (for instance, if it has been waived).
By submitting Personal Information to us, you consent to us using or disclosing Personal Information for:
Secondary Purposes may include: improving our products or services; sending you direct marketing about our products or services, promotions and events (except that we won’t use your Sensitive Information for those purposes, unless you agree); conducting client surveys; managing our relationship with you; monitoring how you interact with us on our website or other contact points; or helping you to complete an activity that you have chosen to undertake.
We may use certain non-personally identifiable information (such as anonymous usage data, IP addresses, browser or platform type etc.) to improve the quality and design of our products and services, and to create new features, promotions, functionality and services by storing, tracking, analysing and processing user preferences and trends as well as user activity and communications.

We will, if practicable, allow you to use a pseudonym or to not identify yourself (unless this is impractical or against the law (including the Australian Privacy Laws or Conduct Rules)). However, as we are a law firm, the nature of our services is such that if you do not provide us with at least some Personal Information (like your name and address!) your preference to remain anonymous or use a pseudonym may influence whether we can begin to provide services to you or if we can continue a relationship with you.

In order to protect your Personal Information, we take care where possible to work with service providers who we consider maintain acceptable standards of data security compliance, and we do our part to meet those standards as they apply to us.
By providing us with Personal Information, you consent to Personal Information being used, stored and disclosed overseas, including but not limited the United States of America and New Zealand.
We will not make any disclosure of Personal Information where doing so would place us in breach of the Conduct Rules.
Is Personal Information confidential and secure?
We take all reasonable steps to keep Personal Information secure and to ensure it is protected against misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or inappropriate disclosure. We may hold Personal Information in both hard copy and electronic forms and will store it in secure systems accessible only to authorised personnel.
